Prairie Homestead Assisted Living Receives Zero Deficiencies on Annual Survey by Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services
Prairie Homestead Assisted Living received ZERO deficiencies during their 4th consecutive zero deficiency survey conducted by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services on April 13, 2016.
Diane Hull, Administrator stated, “We incorporate the state regulations throughout our day to day operations to ensure we are providing the quality of care and services our residents deserve on an ongoing basis. Receiving zero deficiencies 4 years in a row is a true testament to the level of commitment by all the employees to our residents and their quality of life”.
Prairie Homestead Senior Living has been serving Wichita for 50 years and is a faith based, not for profit community offering independent and assisted living.
Assisted Living – Run for the hills!
For many, the thought of moving to an assisted living community means running for the hills - life, as we know it is over! The perception of moving to an assisted living means you are forced to… give up all your independence, your car, your friends, turn over all your finances, give up all social outings and club meetings, there are curfews, there are visiting hours, I will be a prisoner and will not be able to go anywhere or do anything I want too – oh my - how the myths go on and on.
So let’s talk about which of the above myths are true. Here we go – NONE. That’s right; none of the above statements is true at Prairie Homestead Assisted Living.
At Prairie Homestead Assisted Living, you continue to live your life in your own apartment home with the assistance of daily amenities such as all meals, weekly laundry (no more basement steps), weekly housekeeping, weekly bedding change, walk in showers, and an emergency call system – to name a few things and of course, assistance with medications, bathing, dressing, and insulin injections, etc.
One of the many things we hear from residents is how much more enjoyable mealtime is. No worries on what to prepare for each meal, what to purchase at the grocery store, but most of all, friends to visit with.
Our focus is to be there for daily support and assistance, to alleviate stress and worry, to offer a more comfortable, quality of life, so friends and families may return to being just that - friends and family instead of caretakers. Come and go as you please, do what you want when you want, maintain your finances and personal life, as you always have.
Many of us have vivid memories of visiting family members that were “placed in the home”. Sometimes these memories were not pleasant, as quite often, the buildings were old, smelled terrible, and the minute you walked in, you could not wait to leave.
Sadly, these same memories and the fear of being “placed in the home” still exist for many, which hinders individuals and families from exploring assisted living options even though they know the time has come to do so.
Once you begin to visit assisted living communities, you will find they have greatly changed and are far from “being placed in the home” of yesterday. Due to stricter State Regulations, construction of newer communities and as consumers, we demanded improved living arrangements.
For instance, Prairie Homestead assisted living was built in 2008 and comprises of only 30 beautiful, one-bedroom apartment homes - no steps, no elevators, only 3 hallways which offers easy access to everything and frequent socialization with others. In addition, our comfortable size enables all employees to truly know the residents, as the individuals they are, and provide personalized services, because we know what they prefer.
Take it from Opal, a Prairie Homestead assisted living resident “I should have moved here years ago”.
If you find yourself running for the hills, think about making a detour at Prairie Homestead Assisted Living.

Wichita's been our home for almost 50 years. That's how long we've been helping loved ones when sudden changes come about.
9 out of 10 new residents choose Prairie Homestead because they currently know or have known someone who had made their home here.
We're proud to be Wichita's faith based, not for profit, independent and assisted living community since 1965.
